Think of something right now that you have dreamed of doing all of your life? How many years have you been thinking about it?
You want to make things happen but yesterday is gone and today is about to come to an end. Still nothing. Maybe some defeat.
Then you begin to justify why you didn’t meet that deadline, or why the book you’ve been wanting to write for the last ten years still isn’t completed. The house you wanted to build is still on paper. The degree you wanted to earn is nothing but a distant thought. You still haven’t started your own business. You haven’t asked your boss for a raise. You haven’t asked your girlfriend to marry you. The list goes on…
Why?
Because you’re still filling yourself with excuses of why things aren’t being done.

Here are five excuses that keep us from success:
I can’t afford to take a risk.
You can’t afford not to. Really, think about it. What’s the risk really going to cost you? What’s the worst thing that could happen? You’re taking a risk everyday by not taking a risk. Stop being afraid of the failure that may come and go for it. And after you fail, get back up and keep going.
I’m not good enough.
Who says? If someone tells you you’re not good enough, prove them wrong. Most of the time, it’s your own thoughts saying so. If you don’t think you’re good enough to do the job, why should your boss think any different. If you think you’re not good enough to write that book why would any publisher think you are? Michael Hyatt has a great ebook available on how to write that winning book proposal. I highly recommend it.
I’m just not ready.
Yes you are. You are just as ready today as you were three years ago when you were telling yourself the same thing. Go! If you’re not ready, get ready. If you’re not ready to submit a manuscript then study others and learn their process. If you’re not ready to start your own business, become aquainted with those who already have and see how they do things. Learn how to be ready.
I’ll fail.
Yes you will. More than once. Who cares. Get up and keep going. Failure is a teacher. When you fail, ask yourself what you could do better and go at it again. What if Donald Trump would have quit? What if Thomas Edison quit? They failed multiple times. Then they wiped the dust off their shoulders and got back to work. We must do the same.
It’s too hard.
If it was easy everyone would be doing it. If it was easy to become a published author, everyone I know would be a “writer.” If it was easy to earn a Doctorate’s, everyone would be a doctor. If it were easy to be a business owner, no one would choose to have a boss. It’s not easy. Nothing that’s worth a fight is ever easy. Easy is overrated.
We can sit around for the next ten years and make excuses, only to look in the mirror and still be dissapointed that we never pursued anything.
Or…
We can get up, stop making the excuses and go for it.
Which one sounds better? I didn’t say easier, I said better.
