Why Taking Responsibility is the Next Right Step

Many of you know I’m a huge fan of the show, Restaurant Impossible.
Robert Irvine knows what he’s doing and his leadership skills are impressive.
During a recent episode, a restaurant owner was just months away from her restaurant being closed, which she purchased from the family. Every time Robert would ask her a question, she would start crying. She seemed genuinely desperate for help.
Then Robert started digging and the truth came out.
The restaurant was failing, yes. But Robert was about to get to the why behind the what?
Watch the video to hear exactly why this restaurant was failing and how we can learn to take responsibility together.

Here were a few reasons why the restaurant owner wasn’t taking responsibility for her failing restaurant.

  • She was lonely and felt abandoned by her family
  • Because of that, she didn’t think she could trust anyone, which caused her to micromanage
  • She was trying to hold everyhing together and be in control, because that was safe for her
  • She was trying to be great at everything and wasn’t good at anything

But why was her temper tantrum good? Because it got to the why. They could now deal with the real issue at hand as to why the restaurant was failing.
After a mini counseling session, she finally took responsibility, realizing she was in an unhealthy position. Was she cured overnight? Doubtful, but she got to the why behind the what, and that will allow her to continue taking the next right step.
So, I ask you today, what do you need to take responsibility for? What’s keeping you from taking the next right step? Where are you stuck? What fear is holding you back?

It’s not until we know the truth, friends, that we can move forward. (Tweet This)

The Four Steps to Weight Loss Success

The Four Steps to Weight Loss Success

How many diets have you been on that go a little something like this… Throw everything out of your pantry immediately. Get a food scale. Get a body scale. Stop eating all carbs immediately. Pack your fridge full of lettuce and kale because that’s all you’re allowed to eat. Sunday night you have to eat yourself into oblivion so you can get started on the right foot getting skinny on Monday.

Are you relating to this at all? Well.. let me just tell you friend, that’s not how we roll in the Diet Haters world. We’ve gotta learn how to stop doing these crazy things to ourselves.

In this episode, we’re gonna focus on four simple foundations to weight loss. These are easy to follow and change everything for your health journey. You don’t have to count your calories, restrict foods, or even cut out foods if you don’t want to. Just some simple steps.

Most diets have convinced you that in order to lose weight you have to restrict everything and can never have any fun. But that’s not how God created us. He created us to enjoy food. He created us to have fun.  Weight loss isn’t always serious.

So, let’s get back to the basics – to these simple foundations. Click here to listen…

What are you afraid of? : Making Fear a Stepping Stone Instead of a Stumbling Block

What are you afraid of? Seriously… let’s skip past all the fluff of writing a catchy introduction paragraph to this post and just get down to the nitty gritty? What are you afraid of?

For me.. sometimes I can become so afraid of failure I can’t see straight. Other times I can become afraid of success, so I sabotage myself before I can get there. Jesus has been healing me from a deep fear of rejection for the last couple of years. I still find parts of it sneaking up now and again. And spiders.. Yes.. spiders. Stupid, stupid spiders.

What are you afraid of?

Really… what are you afraid of?

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone (Month One Weigh-In Results)

In July I promised you I was going to share my weight loss results since signing up with a personal trainer. I’m keeping my promise, even though it scares me to death to “pour it all out there.”
On August 1 Kim weighed me in and recorded my measurements and body fat. I never took my measurements at the beginning of my 145 lb. weight loss in 2008, but I do know I went from a size 30 to a size 16. Kim and I agreed I would only weigh in once per month so the scale wouldn’t be my focus. I must admit it’s been a bit hard, but I’ve managed.
Here’s where I started:
