Experiencing the Breakthrough [EVENT]

I was recently introduced to a new ministry I want to share with you. World Missions Alliance is practically a next door neighbor that I knew nothing about! I had the opportunity to meet founders Chuck and Helen Todd  about a month ago. Talk about some folks who have seen the miracles of God first hand.

I love their mission statement:

World Missions Alliance breaks social barriers by taking the Gospel to the far corners of the world that have been previously unreachable.

They’ve preached the gospel in the former Soviet Union, China, Iraq, India, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, and more, even enduring a scary hostage situation you would think only happens in movies. They continue to do God’s work despite the dangers.

Praying Through vs. Praising Through

God has been doing some work on my prayer life. I love what he’s showing me. He’s using my prayers to be bolder in all that I do and ask for.

Thanks to my amazing friend Jennifer White for introducing me to The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears. This book is rocking my world!

In the book, Mark Batterson talks about circling the walls of Jericho, as Joshua and his people did. It didn’t look normal. For seven days they circled the city, remaining obedient to God and waiting for his prompting. Day seven, the trumpets blew and the walls collapsed. Why couldn’t they just break the doors down? Because that’s not what God said to do. Simple obedience.

Disappointing God

There are days it seems like I have a thousand things in my mind, one of which I’m lucky to make it from my head onto paper. I’ve been trying to add more stillness to my life and I’ll admit, it’s been a struggle.

Thanks to Abby Lewis, author of Blossoming out of the Valley, I’m learning that stillness doesn’t look the same for everyone. When I first started reading her book, I just assumed you had to close your eyes, lie there in silence and try to keep your thoughts from spinning. Lying in silence usually isn’t my thing, so I thought I was doing something wrong. Nope.

Stillness is different for everyone.

Christianity is a Joke

There are some days I despise Christianity. The sound of the word makes me cringe. Why?

Because people make Christianity a joke.

It’s just a word. It’s a show. It’s a way to categorize ourselves above others. Sometimes I think it’s that very word that keeps others from wanting to know who Jesus is. Truth is…

I can’t blame those turned off by the word.

The Power of Silent Friendships

In the movie Nights in Rodanthe, Richard Gere and Diane Lane begin a whirlwind romance after he stays at her beach house bed and breakfast while visiting to rebuild a relationship with his estranged son. They fall in love and life looks as though it will be a happily ever after story.

After taking a mission trip overseas to provide medical care with his son, Dr. Paul Flanner, Gere’s character is killed. His son delivers the news to Adrienne Willis, Lane’s character. Of course she falls apart.

There’s a scene in the movie where Adrienne sits on the back deck of her North Carolina beach home staring out at the ocean full of devastation. Her best friend, Jean (Viola Davis) sits next to her. She then reaches out her hand and holds Adrienne’s. She didn’t say anything. She didn’t try to fix anything. She just sat in silence with her best friend and let her grieve. I love the true picture of friendship in that scene. It’s the best part of the movie, in my opinion.

A Lion, A Bear, and A Slingshot

The more I get to know people, the more I learn that we all have a past. Though they don’t always look the same, we each have something in our lives that we have allowed to define us.

Up until three years ago, I thought my past was my past and that’s just the way it was. The depths of my sexual abuse couldn’t really be dealt with; they just were what they were. I would always be abandoned by my father and I simply needed to accept it.

Wrong.

Changing My Legacy

I have this fear that creeps up every now and again. It usually takes a while to shake. It rocks me to the core. I feel it drag me down. I find myself asking others if they see it in me. God eventually reels me back in with time. Someday I plan for the fear to disappear altogether.

Yesterday it scared me. The day before that it scared me. Today, the fear was still lingering.

Four Tips to Better Email Etiquette

Email is a necessity, especially in the corporate world. I prefer it over any other type of communication, especially when I’m doing business. It doesn’t leave room for error, because everything you said is in writing and can be referred to later. It makes miscommunication virtually impossible.

Translation: It covers your butt when someone accuses you of saying something you didn’t. Simply refer back to the email to get the facts straight.

Join Me in Praying for Salli

I would like to reach out and ask that you pray for Salli. Two years ago she beat breast cancer. What a reason to celebrate. Unfortuantely, that celebration has had to take a back seat.

Sallie has recently been diagnosed with brain tumors. Doctors have given her one month to live.

But our God is a BIG God..

I don’t have a lot of information, but treatments planned.

Please pray for Salli, as well as the two little boys who call her mom.

Join the Facebook Group

There is currently a Facebook group where updates are given, pray requests are posted, and where you can simply leave words of encouragement for Salli and her family. Please join the group and let her know you are praying for her.

It Could Happen Tomorrow: Are You Ready? [Book Review]

Everyone’s talking about it. Both believers and non-believers have touched the subject of the end of the world. Depending on who you ask, global warming will destroy the world, or Jesus could be coming back.

If you’re a follower of Jesus, you know what the answer is.
